ANNOUNCEMENTS

SCHOOL REGISTRATION
If you have not yet registered your child who is planning to attend Rilke Schule for the 2011-2012 school year, please contact the school office (742-7455) as soon as possible to let the school know of your plans!

ACTIVITIES FEE
The Academic Policy Committee has voted to change the $100 Supplemental Fee that has been charged in the past to a $125 Activity Fee for the 2011/2012 school year.  The fee will not cover large field trips, such as Middle School Camp, but should cover many of the fieldtrips taken throughout the year.  In addition to paying for several fieldtrips, this fee will help us offer students more in the areas of German Enrichment, English Enrichment, Arts Enrichment, Science Enrichment, and Technology.  Payment is due at registration. A separate fee will be charged for clubs.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS
Rilke Schule 7th and 8th graders now have the opportunity to participate in middle school sports at Hanshew Middle School. For more information:  http://www.asdk12.org/activities/middle/participant_MS.asp

SPRECHEN SIE DEUTSCH?
Well, your children do if they attend Rilke Schule, but can you converse with them?  German classes will be offered through the Otto Geist Saturday School starting Sept. 10th.  Saturday classes for beginners and intermediate learners are from 9 - 12 am, Tuesday evening beginner classes run from 6 - 8 pm, Monday intermediate classes from 6-8pm.  Cost is $350 for a semester of the Saturday classes or $250 for the evening classes, plus cost of textbook.  Classes also offered Saturdays for children ages 2 1/2 up.  See our Samstagsschule page for all the details.

ROOT DOWN LUNCH SERVICE AT RILKE SCHULE
Standby for news about the Root Down lunch catering service for the 2011-2012 school year.  Their phone number is 677-0767 and email is  rootdowncatering@gmail.com.  Menus and forms are available at the school.  The cost is $5 per lunch when the entire month is purchased,  $5.50 per lunch for individual lunches ordered by the deadline, and $6 per lunch when ordered after the deadline, which is the last week of the month before. Lunches can be purchased as late as the morning of the day it will be delivered

This is a reminder that same day orders need to be at the office by 8:30am.  Next day orders need to be at the office by 8:30am and placed in an envelope with the child's name, grade, and teacher with whom they have lunch, written on the front.  If your child is absent from school on a day that you ordered lunch, that lunch will be held for your child until the next day unless you make other arrangements with the office.

RAISING $$ FOR RILKE IS AS EASY AS CLIP... SAVE... SEND!
Now that you're back in the school routine, it's time to gear up for our annual BoxTop/Labels/etc. contest!  The grades compete against each other for quarterly prizes and one grand prize to be awarded at the end of the year.  Of course there are also bragging rights.  Each class has a collection box.  All you need to do is collect UPC's, box tops, packets, labels or whatever the program calls for.  If you have questions, please contact Myrna Jensen at 350-6260 or akmnorgirl@yahoo.com

ART SMOCKS
Make sure you have given an old T-shirt or shirt to your child's teacher to have on hand for Art class, unless you want that amazing artwork they are creating to also become a permanent part of your childs wardrobe....

CARPOOLING TO RILKE
The Carpool Map is hanging up in the main lobby at school, sponsored by the Rilke Schule Verein.  Add yourself to the map with a numbered push pin and then fill out an index card with the number of your push pin, name, address, and contact information.  Then families can see at a quick glance who lives nearby and is available to carpool.

REMINDER ABOUT CAR SAFETY
Just a friendly reminder about Alaska’s car seat requirements.  We want all of our students arriving safely to school and at home each day!!
AS 28.05.095:  A child “over four years of age but less than eight years of age who is less than 57 inches in height and weighs 20 or more pounds but less than 65 pounds shall be properly secured in a booster seat that is secured by a seat belt system or by another child passenger restraint system that meets or exceeds the standards of the United States Department of Transportation and is used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions;”
